New - LANtastic Standby

Your internet will fail. Your business won't.

Standby is plug-in cellular failover for $69.95/mo. The moment your primary internet dies, LTE or 5G takes over. Protected data shares the same IP. Phone calls will not drop. Transactions will not drop. The failover is instant.

Why Standby

An outage is closed doors

When the internet drops, the card reader stops mid-swipe, the phones go silent, and the CRM spins. Most businesses find out their backup plan doesn't work at the worst possible moment - while a customer is standing at the counter.

01

Payments stop

Card readers and POS terminals hold sessions to their processor. A dropped connection means voided sales, manual imprints, or customers walking out.

02

Phones go quiet

VoIP calls ride your internet. When it dies mid-call, the customer hears silence - and their next call is to your competitor.

03

Cloud apps freeze

CRM, scheduling, and inventory all live in the cloud. No connection means no record of the last hour of business.

How it works

Plug it in. Forget it's there.

Standby runs your network day to day on your existing internet connection, with two cellular carriers on board. The cellular side sits idle until the day it saves you.

1. We install it

The Standby router arrives configured, with LANtastic SIMs on two carriers - T-Mobile and AT&T - already inside. Installation takes minutes, not a truck-roll afternoon.

  • Replaces your current router - routing and Wi-Fi 6 built in
  • Dual SIM, dual carrier - active on the stronger signal
  • External antennas for solid indoor reception

2. It watches your line

Standby health-checks your primary connection continuously. A line that looks up but passes no traffic counts as down.

  • Detects hard outages and dead-but-connected failures
  • Monitored 24/7 by the same team that runs our core
  • No action needed from your staff, ever

3. It takes over instantly

The moment the primary fails, traffic moves to cellular in under a second - fast enough that active phone calls and card transactions continue.

  • Same public IP - sessions survive the switch
  • Phone calls will not drop
  • Transactions will not drop
  • Switches back automatically when the primary recovers
The same-IP difference

Failover without the same IP is just a second outage

Ordinary cellular backup gives you a different public address - so your POS re-authenticates, VPNs rebuild, and calls drop anyway. Standby tunnels your traffic through the LANtastic core, so the public IP your payment processor, phone provider, and VPN peers see never changes. Protected data shares the same IP through the outage and back.

POS & payments

Card sessions stay authenticated with the processor - no re-enrollment, no voided sales, no manual fallback.

VoIP phones

SIP registrations hold and active calls continue through the failover - the caller never knows it happened.

CRM & cloud apps

Logged-in sessions to your CRM, scheduling, and inventory tools keep working instead of timing out and losing work.

VPN

Site-to-site VPNs stay connected - the far end still sees the address it expects.

The hardware

LT502 5G Router - two carriers in one box

The Standby router is a dual-SIM cellular router with Wi-Fi 6, four gigabit LAN ports, and a WAN port. Both LANtastic SIMs are installed and activated before it ships - if one carrier has weak coverage at your address, it runs on the other.

FAQ

Standby questions

How fast is the failover, really?

Under a second. That is faster than a card terminal's timeout and short enough that an active phone call rides through it, which is why calls and transactions continue instead of dropping.

How does the same IP survive the failover?

Your public IP lives on the LANtastic core, not on your ISP line. Standby tunnels traffic to our core over whichever path is alive - your primary internet or cellular - so the address the outside world sees never changes.

Is 1G of data enough?

For failover use, usually yes - the cellular link only carries traffic while your primary is down. A typical outage of an hour or two uses a fraction of it. If an outage runs long, overage is a flat $10/G with no shutoff.

Does it work with my current router or firewall?

No - Standby is the router. It has routing, Wi-Fi 6, and four gigabit LAN ports built in and takes the place of your current firewall router. It arrives configured, the swap is part of installation, and we manage it from there.

Which carrier does it use?

Both. The router holds two LANtastic SIMs - T-Mobile and AT&T - and runs on the stronger signal at your location. Service and billing stay with LANtastic either way; there is no carrier contract in your name.

What is the difference between Standby LTE and Standby 5G?

Speed of the cellular path. Both cost $69.95/mo and fail over identically; Standby 5G's modem gives faster throughput during an outage, and its installation & shipping is $200 on a 12-month term or $400 month-to-month, versus $100/$250 for Standby LTE.

What happens when my primary internet comes back?

Standby shifts traffic back to the primary automatically once it has proven healthy - same IP, no drops, no reboot, nothing for your staff to do.

What if I outgrow failover?

Upgrade to LANtastic Bonded and every connection works at once - full combined bandwidth all day, not just during outages. Your Standby cellular link can join the bond.
